Class: 4 - Lesson: 12 Presentation (Insert Picture, Insert New Slide, Use Font Style, Layout, Master Page)

Purpose: To learn about slides, layouts, Fontwork, properties and master pages in a presentation.

Material Required

OpenOffice, animal pictures, bird pictures.

Prior Knowledge

Students should know:

  • Typing text in a text document and its properties.
  • File and folder operations.

    Exercise 1



    1. How do you create a presentation, change the slide layout, insert a duplicate slide, hide and rename a slide, and delete a particular slide?

    Exercise 2



    1. Create a presentation in English. Use different types of layout, and type the animal's name using Fontwork with its picture, across five slides. Use master pages for the slides. The exercise instructions are given below.

    ⟹Open the presentation.

    ⟹Insert five slides.

    ⟹Type an animal's name in each, and insert the matching animal picture below the name.

    ⟹Set any slide as the master slide, and use the gallery option for images.

    ⟹Use the properties and formatting tool (bold, italic, underline, etc.).

    1. How do you create a presentation in Tamil? Use different types of layout, and type the bird's name using Fontwork with its picture, across five slides. Use master pages for the slides. The exercise instructions are given below.

    ⟹Open the presentation.

    ⟹Insert five slides.

    ⟹Type a bird's name in each, and insert the matching bird picture below the name.

    ⟹Use the properties and formatting tool (bold, italic, underline, etc.).

  • Teacher Instructions
    1. Keep an 'Animals' folder and a 'Birds' folder somewhere on the PC, so that the required image files are available to students while doing the exercise.
    2. Teachers should ask students to make the presentation in their medium of study.
    3. For typing, students should use the layout, Fontwork and the drawing tool "text" option - they should type using all three methods.
    4. Teachers should also ask them to type in Tamil.
    5. Use the terms "layout", "properties", "master pages", "slide" and "insert", etc. while teaching, so that students become familiar with them.
    6. Save the presentation created in this exercise, to edit in the next lesson.
    7. Teachers should explain all the features of the gallery tool.
    8. Teachers may allow students to complete the exercise in groups and ask them to present using slideshow option.
    9. Teachers should ask students to run the finished presentation as a slide show (F5), using both the "On mouse click" and "Automatically after" advance settings.
